The GASC is a community-based agriculture business farm that
specializes in crop. production, Marketing and Catering Services Company, GASC is a fruit and vegetable. wholesaler and agricultural equipment leasing service provider. It was started as Way to Agriculture Company in 2015; GASC collaborates with local populations, engaging them in provincial agricultural operations and projects by creating job opportunities during the projects. The farm currently employs 12 full time staff and over 50 community members. who participate in various on-farm agronomic activities during seasons in the production cycle…

Recognizing the important role of agricultural commodities to address climate change as well as achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, notably promoting economic development, reducing poverty, underpinning food security and improving the livelihoods of billions of people; Recognizing also the shared responsibility of the Agri-commodity sector, including traders, processors, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers, as well as governments; We recognize that significant progress can be made Agriculture Production, but this progress must be accelerated and scaled-up to support global efforts in reaching to be reduced lack of productivity in agriculture globally by 2050, halting biodiversity loss, and providing sustainable livelihoods.

THE CHALLENGE

Many Somali farmers produce agricultural. products on a micro-scale. In the event they have surplus produce, farmers typically lack the capacity to transport the excess product to the customers. In addition, many of these farmers do not have continuous access to water, and lack. refrigerated transportation and storage facilities. Thus, significant postharvest product is lost to spoilage. GASC sought out an investment to further expand the business and directly impact growth of GASC’s smallholder farming suppliers.
